What is HRA Calculator?

An HRA calculator helps salaried individuals calculate the House Rent Allowance (HRA) exemption they can claim under the Income Tax Act. It determines how much of your HRA is tax-free and how much is taxable.

How is HRA Calculated?

HRA exemption is calculated as the minimum of the following:

  • Actual HRA received
  • 50% of basic salary (for metro cities) or 40% (for non-metro cities)
  • Rent paid minus 10% of basic salary

Who Can Claim HRA?

HRA exemption can be claimed by salaried employees who receive HRA as part of their salary and live in rented accommodation.

Benefits of Using HRA Calculator

  • Quick and accurate tax calculation
  • Helps in tax planning
  • Easy comparison between taxable and exempt HRA
